I almost pulled the trigger on a WE Limited Petite S/Zin yesterday, but didn't because of no grapepak, instead considering an Italian varietalfor 2012, nevertried a Mosti kits, but suddenly interested. Amarone or Barolo? Already use the 10 galfor Cellar Craft.

That particular WE kit was a past Limited Selection and folks have been begging them to release it again. I finally decided to just make my own which should be ready to drink next year. Why not just add the syrah grape pack to the kit? Although that amarone is pretty good!

I've got the CC Pinot Noir and RM Trio booked for 2012 and really needed an Italian to round out the cellar. PS/Zin blend is my favorite commercial wine, but not sure about tweaking a WE. When you say amarone,do you mean the MM Ren series? IF it's 18 Lt of juice plus the 4 kg/and raisians, the body and taste has got to be there. I know there are CC/RJS amarones that are highly recommended, but the cost on this MM Ren is very reasonable right now.

I have made both the MM Ren Amarone with raisins (2007) and the CC Showcase Amarone with the super grape pack (2008). I much prefer the MM version as do most of my taste tasters. We picked up a bottle of commercial to compare the 3 and the MM was a much closer match most likely because of the raisins. When I go to make this again it'll be the MM Ren version.

I had just assumed the top 100 were the top 100 winners of their big yearly tasting contest. Maybe that is not the case afterall. So, how did they arrive at the top 100?

As you can imagine there are hundreds and hundreds of the same kits being submitted.

Here is how it was explained for the 2006 story.
http://winemakermag.com/stories/kit/article/indices/25-kit-winemaking/683-the-top-100-kits
This year we’ve decided to go one step further and put the spotlight on the top 100 scoring kits from the 2006 competition. What follows is a ranking based on the average scores given by judges of the top performing kit entries this year. Extending all the judging scores out to the furthest decimal point we were able to compile this ranked list of those kit entries that had the highest average scores from among the 1,296 kit entries.
