Hi all,

I have recently moved from Yorkshire to sunny Tenby in South Wales. I am planning on planting a number of vines in a section of my garden in the spring and I am beginning to plan now.

Does anyone UK based, have any recommendations of hardy variety that are mildew resistant have a decent yield given our wonderful climate?

I have a bit of a shortlist based on some research so far but Im happy to hear feedback on these or havre any other recommendations.

- Bacchus
- Solaris
- Sauvignac

As a follow on, if anyone has any recommendations of good rootstock suppliers, that would be great too.

Thanks in advance

Hi!

I recently planted some seyval and Solaris. The Solaris has been more vigorous than the seyval, neither are cropping yet. I’m based in Sussex, have clayey/ sandy soil over sandstone

This book helped research and decisions, you may already have it or be aware of it. An interesting read nonetheless!:

Thanks ill be sure to buy myself a copy. I hadn't come across it.

I had read though a piece on vineworks which was pretty helpful

I need to do a soil test asap in the garden however chatting to some potato farmers down the road, they all say the soil is "fine loam over sandstone", well draining and GREAT for crops
