sorry to ask but what was the problem with WE and ports?

With this year's Port Kits, WE started a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) requirement. If you want to be a retailer, you can't advertise a price below the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). It is technically not price fixing because retailers can sell it for whatever they want. They just can't advertise it.

So, people are upset and refusing to pre-order kits subject to MAP (WE Port kits). This might be an opportunity for RJS to expand retailers and pick up market share.

FYI to anyone watching that video, the locals don't call it the YakEEEma valley. It's Yakima, like the I in 'it'

There are certain vendors out there offering free shipping as a result of WE's stupid policy. In addition to that, one is also offering corks, a t-shirt, an airlock, and shrink wraps with each LE. And if you order 4 LE's, you get a floor corker, or $50 off your order. It still ticks me off that WE is doing this and I may just boycott it altogether. One of the kits I'd do is the Super Tuscan and I can simply go with the Winery Series from RJS, which was my original plan.

I am waiting for my LHBS to give me some prices,

otherwise it is a toss up between
Super Tuscan
or
Triumph Washington

ditto, I was really expecting a good price on the WE Super Tuscan, but at $164.00, no way Jose...:ft

MY Lhbs just got back to me and they are selling the Tuscan for $164 as well.
That makes the Triumph Washington much more appealing at $136, but it has no SKINs!!!!!

:pee

Global

I hadn't been following this thread, because I won't be making WE LEs anymore. I am finding this very interesting, and perhaps can offer a bit of additional information.
I visited WEs site this morning, and it is all new, including a new head office location in St. Catherine's Ontario. After navigating the site, I sent an e-mail to (my own contact list) winexpert customer service. That email was auto forwarded to Globalvintners, which was where the reply came from. It appears what you are experiencing is the "new corporate" version of WineXpert. I also noticed in their product listings that "Barolo style" has been replaced with "Italian Piedmont Nebbiolo" in both eclipse and selection versions. I also noted that all the Selection labels have the same design. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the corporate strategy also creates lesser product quality.

For people who made the previous years: are these worth the price? are these LE as good as the eclipse series or better than selection or is it simply expensive because of the fact it's available for a limited time only?
With available discounts, one can find an eclipse kit at $130 and a selection kit below $100... Just wonder where I should put my money...

RJ's, CC, etc... anywhere but with WE, vote with your dollars. Let's send these corporate tools a message!

I just went through my records, I've purchased 53 kits from WE over the past several years.

I won't be purchasing any of their LE's this year, or any thing else from them in the future, until they lose this corporate mentality.

I was excited for the Shiraz Viognier but I'm going to pass because of the price fixing.

Sure but they are just as expensive as the "fixed price" from Winexpert if not more, aren't they?

They aren't price fixing CC kits yet, and maybe this will be a great incentive for many of us to start making wine from grapes or frozen must.

I agree with you. I am going to start looking at grape and fresh juice. I live in the Niagara region so there are a good amount of local places to get grapes/juice. Walker Fruit Basket has 5 gallon of fresh local grown Niagara juice for $37.5

I was exited about, and planning to purchase four of the five, all but the Reisling. I'm going pass as well for the same reason.

Usually, unless you find a decent sale. I guess I'm going to support the little guy for a while. I've heard good things about RJ's winery series. It will take me a while to work my way through that line, plus the occasional En Primeur just for comparison. :h
