for me it will be a salt cured ham, black eyed peas, green cabbage, cornbread.
some cc and coke, maybe some port ...just a good ole southern new years dinner.
ohhh...pineapple upside down cake.

Large prime rib roast.

James,

I saw on another thread that you make your own Au Jous for prime rib? Care to share that recipe with me?

I sorta cheat JohnT....i add a can of beef Consomme to the pan that I am cooking the prim rib roast in. when i pull the prime rib from the oven I add 1/2 stick of real butter...blend...

There will be 8 couples at our home for dinner. I will cook. We are starting with potato leek soup paired with a 2009 unoaked Donum Carneros Chard. Taste like a good Chablis. Entre will be veal osso bucco with saffron risotto and wild mushrooms paired with a 2001 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Argona Brunella. This is an unbelievable Brunello. I have been cellaring it since 2006. Dessert will be my wife's wonderful apple tart paired with a 2003 Chateau Guiraud Sauterne. I will have to wait until the summer before we can dine and drink my own wine. Can't wait. Happy New Year to all.

You got that right James. Totally southern. I bought the peas today and have cabbage ready to be picked in the garden.

We are going out New Years eve to see an 80's tribute band so I won't be cooking. We do our meal on New years day.

We've got several couples coming over - some bringing their kids.

Kids: pizza
Adults: rib eyes on the bbq, crab legs, lemon butter, roasted vegetables, buttered peas, and cucumber salad. Dessert will be chocolate fondue. It's a very rustic dinner, but oh so yummy!

My mouth is watering !!
Don't mind if I stop by ?

We bought ourselfs 13 dozens of raw oysters and 6 softshell crabs. At first we were eating the oysters raw until we figured it would be better if we made poboys.

So in due time GF started cutting up onions, tomatoes and spinich as well as some french bread.

Afterwards we started gutting and cleaning the soft shell crabs up. Before long we had ourselves quite a bit of oysters and softshell crabs all nice and fried up laid down on a nice looking poboy sandwich.

Needless to say, it was delicous and we have more fried critters left over than what we know what to do with.
