Scuba you can mix some up like Waldo says, but instead of adding it all back, add about half and give it a taste. You may find that to be enough. If not just add a bit more, stir and taste until it gets to where you are happy with it. Also be careful with the sugar weight, it varies by type. Around here sugar weighs just a bit under half a pound per cup. You want a bit over a pound so here it would be closer to 3 cups rather than 5.
