    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

Looked at my Hygrometer and reread my posting, S.G. Should have been 1.114, not 1.14. That missing 1 makes a bunch of difference. Should have caught that when I proof read it.

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

Good point, will see what I can do in the morning about that. Have room as my primary fermenter is 6 gallons and I have 5 in there now. Thanks for the heads up. John

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

Got everything arranged, locked my 4 year old granddaughter out of the room and commenced the experiment. Put in a 1 gallon jug of spring water and the packet of bentonite into the fermenter, stir it up. Next was empty the bag of juice into the primary fermenter and a good rinse (the bag) to...

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

Just received all the rest of the ingredients, tannin, French Oak chips, Zante Currents. Also needed new Ph paper for wine. Will start the brewing tomorrow and let you know. This is a $43 Amazon Merlot kit. I may even throw in a few other things.

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

I have a $43 Amazon “Wine Lovers” Merlot on the way, any suggestions as to Oak, Yeast, or other goodies to throw in the mix other than those already listed. Really wondering about the yeast. I was thinking of aging in a 20 liter Oak keg, but would the chips be ok? I only have one keg. John

    What's in your glass tonight?

I use a paddle on a long rod and my cordless drill to degass, beat the heck out of it. Haven’t had a problem yet, but there is Murphy’s law. Speaking of good Rum, I use Jamaican double black to mix my Mai Tais. And then blending, I haven’t done that yet, do mainly varitals. I have been...

First time for Wine from fresh crush.

I think a couple of hours, they will give me a call when it happens. Not sure about bringing along friends, guess I could ask and see. They are very picky about their vines and I think I am the first to get to help do some picking with them.

First time for Wine from fresh crush.

I will be getting 5 gallons of crushed and de-stemmed must. Going to supply some labor and be paid in juice. Love the drive, so definitely woth it. Will be using frozen water in pint bottles to keep everything cool, no delusion of the must that way. Looking forward to doing this without a...

First time for Wine from fresh crush.

I have used a few kits the last few years and have been offered some fresh crushed juice. This will be my first try making wine from fresh crushed grapes. This will be in August or September and I have about a 2 hour drive to get it home. Will most likely be Syrah or Petit Syrah. I am...
