As you said, once it's frozen that's it.

What is wrong with my new blackberry shoots?

You could try submitting the pics to the LSU ag. dept., they may have an answer.

    Garlic wine

Just started (2 days ago) a 1gal batch of garlic wine. Chopped 3/4gal of fresh garlic along with the leaves. Pitched 1118 into a gal. of water sweetened to 1.085. It's working vigorously but stinks like hell. I don't intend to drink this stuff but intend to use it for cooking.

    new house - backyard trellis??

I'd had them 3-4yrs. There wasn't much sugar content or exceptional flavor. Since I was looking for a stronger muscadine flavor I decided on welder as a replacement.

    new house - backyard trellis??

Good luck with the southern home, I pulled my (2) up last year. There was a lot of good hype about them but I was not impressed.

    new house - backyard trellis??

The male or self fertile vine should be within 20' of the females. You're on the mark about watering, muscadines don't like wet feet. As for not letting them range more than 10', I question that. I use "T" posts and train the vines to go in 4 different directions and stop them at 15'. This...

    when good wines gone bad

Kind of like Supreme Court decisions, you have to take what you get, there is no recourse.

    when good wines gone bad

My experience is about "O" on the beans. I've used some in deserts but not to enhance the flavor of liqueres or wines. $80 seemed like a lot of money to spend on one component in a 10 bottle batch of the creme liquere. I'm a little on the miserly side as you can see. When adding the creme or...

I'm sure the vanilla bean is best but couldn't vanilla extract be substituted?

15' spacing of the cross ties and 4' on the T's. It looks like the old threads (previous pages) have been deleted but just today I saw them, that's how I knew it was on page 9. Contact a moderator for help. Go to main forum (Wine making and grape growing) then go to (Growing and vineyard)...

Ison and Black beauty are good. Darlene would be my pick over pam, I have both. Consider planting a few sugar gates as these have a little different flavor over the others plus a high sugar content, it's my over all favorite for fresh eating. I have "T" posts at 10' and 15' spacing. The 15'...

    Need advice

Will you be using them all for wine or maybe selling for fresh eating? I sell most of mine for the fresh market but save enough for a couple batches of wine.

    Need advice

That sounds fine, good luck. BTW, how do you plan to do the picking? I do mine by hand one at a time which is quite time consuming.

How far apart are the rows? Keep in mind that for proper pollination the rows can't be any further than 20' apart.

    Blackberry Orchard

Is this going to be a u-pickum operation or will you be picking them yourself? 20 rows would keep some one very busy. There is a u-pickum operation in Laf., La. that has 3-20' rows, a small operation but the guy makes enough to pay his elec. bill for the year.

    spiced apple-cinnamon explosion

I had the same thing happen but instead of cinnamon sticks I was adding nutrient. It took off like a volcano but settled down rapidly. It's a degassing thing but at the time I thought MAN this is some powerful nutrient.:d
