WineXpert WineExpert Kit Product Line Evaluation

I can tell the difference between the high and low end kits with reds....whites, not so much...but, I'm not a white wine guy either. In my limited experience, the Eclipse type kits are not bad drinkers early and get very good with some age. The lower end kits seem to be decent early drinkers and...

Has anyone experience with making Gewürztraminer

Yes...to my tastes the wine has a Spice...maybe what you call bite...or that may have been CO2 also...or both. I also taste a mineral note in the kit I made. It is different from every other boring bland dry white wine I have made, I like that about it...but again, whites just don't do much for me.

    WineXpert Bravado Super Tuscan

We opened a 750 last night and tasted after it had been open for 20 minutes. It got RAVE reviews and got better as the evening went on...really opened up and was a very nice. I expect it will continue to improve. Very pleased.

Has anyone experience with making Gewürztraminer

I've made a batch using a smaller kit. I'm not a white wine guy.... I find them bland to boring. I like Gminer, my word, just because it does have some flavor some bite to it. I like it with Mexican food.

    Other Tweeking Cheap Kits

OK Joe...the bad Did a cellarcraft Chardonnay...reduced the volume and used the zest of two grapefruits. That was a bigger kit and I don't think the volume should have been reduced. The wine is pretty full bodied, almost thick. WAY too much grapefruit zest. Even after a year and half this wine...

    Bottle filler

My neighbor lady bottles right out of the spigot on the bucket. I asked why and she because it was on there when you gave it to me. I said I also gave you a bottling wand....she said what's that!! She still uses the spigot. I feel like you have better control with wand, but it is a bit slower...

    Did something stupid...

We locked horns again last night. I handed her a sweater and said just put this on.....she suggested I insert it in a body cavity. I went out to the shop and stayed there until the lights went out in the house. These are dangerous times we live in today.:ft

    Did something stupid...

Locking thermostat! I need one....my wife is killing me. One hour it's 65 in the house and the next hour it's 85. I've tried talking to her about it, but that was a REALLY bad idea. Hormones are hell to live with:s

    SG of Wine Expert Valroza

Joe, you are SOL....gotta have that first reading. I suggest you go middle of the road SG 1.09, finished at .996, ABV 12.36% according to the calculator I used. Live and learn....I've done the same thing!

    removing labels easily

someone asked me what I would do if I won the Lottery. I said I don't know what I would do....but I know what I would not do. I would never reload another shotgun shell or scrape a label off a wine or beer bottle! Strictly new cases of shells and bottles. Problem solved....except the part about...

PBW / Oxyclean residue in carboy

I had a similar problem.....do you by chance use well water? I think that is what caused my problem....which looked like very bad water spots that were very hard to scrub off. Wound up refilling the carboy with PW and soaking, dumping, and then rinsing the heck outta it!

    Label Wizard

I guess I am just way old school....I use one of our kitchen towels that has a checkerboard pattern....I use the boxes to line up the labels....close enough! Now if they sold something that made all the bottles the same size shape and color......That I would Buy! :db

    Woodworking

I can repair, I can not build furniture. Well, rough rustic stuff, not fine grade. When we lived in Fort Worth, my neighbor was a fine furniture maker. He hated finishing, I loved finishing....we made some really beautiful pieces together....he cut, I rubbed! I just never could seem to build...

    Limoncello, take 2

I wish I could get that deep yellow color...mine is pale but clearer. Taste is good...but I like that deep yellow color.

Vintner's Harvest Cherry fruit wine base

what timing...one of wife's customer gave her a bottle of Cherry Wine made from Vintners Harvest....she was told it was made by the directions on the can. We both found it to be very thin, weak, and if I hadn't know it was Cherry, I never would have guess it by the taste....some berry flavor...

    Speeding up the aging process

I am pretty new myself but when we open a wine and let it breathe, I think what is really happening is it is farting out co2. Yeah even though we degassed , still a bit of co2. I notice this in commercial wines also.. My thoughts and I've been wrong before.

    A ******* Bock...

    RJ Spagnols Best White Kit

Putterr....I am leaning in that direction myself and will follow your footsteps. Except I do have a huge amount fun tweaking these cheaper kits into a much better wine than they would have been. I don't tweak the big kits or do very small tweaks. I'm finding they drink good early and MUCH...
