    Wild Grape Wine Questions

Thanks Raptor99, The recipe didn't really give a timeline on the fermenting process, just said till it clears, any ideas of how long that might take?

I was just shopping and looked at that. So you use mainly beer bottles if the champaign bottles use different caps.

    Wild Grape Wine Questions

Thanks Raptor99! It sounds like an interesting project. I do have a few champaign bottles and a few beer bottles to try it with. I will have to get the correct sugar and crown caps. Good to know with trying it after two weeks! I will do a small batch and see how it goes before jumping in too...

    Wild Grape Wine Questions

Hi Raptor99, I just started my Mike's Hard Lemonade today. Reading your above #3 method still has me a little concerned. How do I know how much sugar is the right amount? Also the statement bottle carbonate, how do you exactly do that? Is it out of the question to leave it in a carboy? Thanks...

    Wild Grape Wine Questions

Hello VinesnBines, I started a batch of the Mike's Hard Lemonade today! I'm wondering about the bottling though. I don't have a bottling bucket. Just wondering if this needs to be bottled or can I leave it in a carboy? Do we need to worry about head space and CO2 spoilage. If I bottle, the...

    Wild Grape Wine Questions

Hello Vinobeau, Fellow wild grape member here. I was reading your post about the Carbonic Maceration. That sounds very interesting. I looked up what it meant and was curious how you ferment with CO2 by itself. I did read that some have done it in a plastic bag with dry ice. Without being a...

Hello Ohio Bob, I am not familiar with Viognier; is it a bottled wine or does it come in a kit form? Thanks, Senior Hobby

    15 month dilemma

Hello Jovimaple, It turns out after racking 1 of my 2 carboys, that I have 5 gallons to play with. I added the oak & will give it a few weeks. I did add sugar to 1 gallon. Tomorrow I will add some calcium carbonate and give that some time. Any other ideas? Senior Hobby

    15 month dilemma

Hi Sailor 323, I just added the oak today. I'm starting with 1 oz per gallon; wait a few weeks then see what happens. I do have about 10 gallons to work with. Suggestions? Thanks, SeniorHobby

    15 month dilemma

Hello VinesnBines, I ordered my oak chips & today I added 1 oz of the medium toast French chips to 1 gallon of wine; I figure I can always add more in time. As long as I was at it I racked the wine again & found a lot of tartrate crystals in the bottom of my carboy so my cold stabilization...

    15 month dilemma

Thanks Jovimaple! Twin Cities is about two hour drive. Don't like the drive/triffic. I will do on-line just to save the headache! St Cloud used to have a wine making supply store, too bad it didn't make it!

    15 month dilemma

I think I will take some of the 1/2 gallon of the wine & add the calcium carbonate just to see if it might help. With waiting on the shipment of the supplies on line at least I will have something to do! I was going to try the wine with my taco meal the other night but that was before I got my...

    15 month dilemma

No kidding on trying new things. Most of the hard work is done already...fermenting, racking! I will have to order my wine supplies, went to St Cloud MN today to see if a wine supply store was there, no such luck. Will have to order online. Shoot!

    15 month dilemma

I have about 6 gallons and when I started it I believe that I was on the high end, maybe 5 lbs or a little over of berries per gallon. I thought at the time that with more berries that I would have more flavor. Just pure wild grape wine made with the berries in a straining bag.

    15 month dilemma

Thanks Sailor323, I think I will try the oak chips. I might break it down into groups to try different treatments. What would you recommend for an amount of KCHO3 per gallon?

    15 month dilemma

Thanks Denden5136! I will do that, might just pull off a gallon or two and try different amounts.

    15 month dilemma

Thanks VinesnBines! I will! First I need to get the oak chips at home. I haven't done any adding of oak yet so that will be an interesting thing to try.
