How much wine do you make annually, and what do you do with it all!!!

I probably made about 75 gallons in the last year (my first year) and have about 200 bottles on racks or in carboys yet. It seems every family function I'll take a 6 pack with me and they get consumed and I'll have a bottle or two a week. Sisters like it so it gets spread around.

    irrigation backyard vineyard

I used 1/2" PEX tubing when I was raising birds out back. It's durable, relatively cheap, and the quick connects make it easy to switch your configuration. In areas that I mowed, I buried it, and in other areas I just ran it on the ground. I did drain it every winter to avoid any cracks.

    Reception

If this is a typical WI wedding, one bottle per adult would not be close! Or that's just my experience :) However, even at open bar weddings I've been to, beer is the drink of choice. It will depend a lot on the families and the crowds the newly weds hang out with. Its hard to dance or...

    trellis installation

Berrycrush, Grapeman - I see that you both have put landscape fabric down along your rows. I think I read somewhere (here or a book) that mulching around the vines could be bad for my area. I live about an hour straight east of Minneapolis and we definitely get some cold weather (last year was...

    Anyone Growing Marquette Grapes?

Great Thread Guys and Great Info! I am in the infancy stages of thinking about maybe getting some grapes in the ground. I have been sampling various local wines in West Central WI and have really liked some Marechal Foch wines and the La Crescent has been good. I am yet to find a straight...

    Show Us Your Pets

Very good looking retrievers! These kids are about 2 1/2 weeks, eyes open and starting to quarrel some. Very light coloring. Not sure which one we will keep yet but our daughter wants all of them :)

    The Winehouse

Kraffty, looking great! I love the arched look on the ceiling drywall, very unique. This is going to be an awesome area when you are finished. That counter top will definitely be a focal point. Nice work!

    Show Us Your Pets

Sorry to hear about the losses, one of the tough parts of pet ownership. I'm guessing in the next year or so we'll have to sit our 4 yr old down and have a conversation. Our chocolate lab is getting up there. We also have a Gordon Setter and a Yellow Lab, all males. These little guys were...

    Posts are too short

One method used in pheasant flight pen construction is to install a couple tall (telephone poles) posts deep into the ground and braced well (flight pens could be 15' tall). Then, cable is run between the posts, with pulleys, to support the netting and a crank is installed on one end. The...

Do you listen to music in the lab? If so what?

Funny, my wife thinks I'm nuts listening to NPR, I can't believe how many of us do. Put on 35k to 40k miles a year for work and AM radio has most of my presets. I figure you may be able to at least learn a thing or two while driving. In the lab, usually have Brewers/Packers/Badgers game on...

    PH Strips

I'd hang on to them just in case I needed them in the future. Can't remember exactly but I think they were pretty cheap. I've used them even with my kit wines just to check the pH and document it. That way if I have issues with a similar kit or would like to try to copy the kit, I have some...

    Bubbles in Wine

Thanks Grapes - So, what you are saying is that I should either dump all of my bottles and degas again, drink it quickly, or risk it? What would cause the gassy wine to blow the top? Would it just be an increase in temperature or are there other factors? Thanks!

    Bubbles in Wine

Posting so I don't forget to check this. I knew I had bottled my Shiraz a little young but needed the carboy. Had a bottle this weekend and had the same thing, good taste, not fizzy, but could see those little bubbles. Really hope stuff doesn't start popping when the temps warm up!

What other hobbies do you have?

Play softball in the summer, Bird/Deer Hunting in the Fall, Gardening, Cooking Past few years I have raised a few thousand pheasant and chukar each year. I think that hobby will be replaced with wine/beer/cheese making. Snow storms/freezing rain keeps collapsing the pens. However, now I...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

Cellar is starting to get filled, have 8 gallons of DB that is about ready to bottle and 5 gallons of some apple combinations. Once those are bottled, it'll look a little more fitting. I would like to build a table out of an old wire spool and put that under the three light chandelier. It may...

    Advice for Wine Making Room

Just about finished, finally, with the wine room. Installed a plastic (cheap) utility sink. Was able to pick up a fridge/microwave combo for $100 from my college alma mater. Used cheap mdf for the counters. Just need to finish some trim and plumbing and she's good to go.
