    Dragons blood questions

I've cut my lemon juice down to one 32oz bottle per 6 gal. batch. That's the size that I can get locally, and I find that it's just right for me. Also I drink my dragons blood, and skeeter pee over ice, like a hard lemonade and it cuts the acid bite as the ice dilutes it a bit. You could take a...

    Disaster strikes!

Knock on wood, I've never had a major mishap like a broken carboy, but I was racking to a bottling bucket one night, I wasn't watching the bucket as I was holding the auto siphon. As I was standing there, I felt my socks getting wet, as was the kitchen rug I was standing on! Lo and behold I had...

    Meat Sauce - not bad

Looks incredibly tasty, did you use dried basil? fresh adds so much more flavor.I pick the leaves during the growing season, and store them in a zip-lock bag in the freezer. When I'm cooking sauce I grab a few frozen leaves, chop roughly and add to the sauce. I've also chopped it in a food...

Happy Thanksgiving! What are we drinking?

Sounds like an ambitious undertaking Arne, good luck with that! Probably will have a bottle of cranberry, moscato, white zin, and chokecherry. Dale.

    Life expectancy in beer bottle?

Grew up on a farm myself, there's always work to do, but I seem to remember having the time to party a little. Now I'm a upper middle aged fart, and live in town, so I have time for a few hobbies. And I really love making wine, and my family and friends appreciate it! Dale.

    Life expectancy in beer bottle?

I should clarify, I have friends whose families have fallen for the stuff, my kids friends, friends of their friends, it seems that it disappears quite fast, and I don't get very much for myself. With Dragon blood, and Skeeter pee, it seems like everyone that tries it wants some more. Dale.

    Life expectancy in beer bottle?

All of my Dragons Blood, and Skeeter Pee gets bottled in crown cap beer bottles. 25 fit nicely in a milk crate, and those stack well so storage is a breeze. I'm with Arne, I haven't been able to keep any around to age more than a couple of months, and I make at least 15 gallons a month, of...

    Raspberry wine pulp removal

Time is going to be your friend on this one. It's still in its early stages so just let it sit, keep the airlock filled and wait and let it do its thing. The fruit solids will compact over a period of a few weeks, and you can siphon off of that. Do not dump the lees, pour them into a sanitized...

    Nylon Stocking

Well, being a new guy, I'm going to have to bite. What's the corner? And would you care to elaborate? Dale.

Winter Versions of Skeeter Pee and Dragon Blood

I added four cans of frozen cranberry juice cocktail, to backsweeten, and flavor a batch of skeeter pee. I only used a 32 oz bottle of lemon juice as the cranberry adds tartness of its own. I really like it. this was a five gallon batch. Dale.

    Favorite Fruit Wine

I'm really struggling with this one, I think chokecherry is probably my favorite, elderberry, then blackberry. No wait! blackberry, elderberry, chokecherry, OH CRAP! why do I have such a hard time making such hard choices! Man, now I'm going to drink a bottle of each and think about it! I'll try...

Beef Jerky gun and food dehydrator

When you're ready to add another hobby to your growing list, google UDS, ugly drum smoker. I built one several years ago and use it for cooking ribs, poultry, brisket, pork butts, and jerky. They're cheap to build and once you've cooked on them several times are nearly set it and forget it! Dale.

    Holy Cheese on a Cracker!

Arne, that would be great, things are kind of crazy here right now, we have one daughter that we're moving into her first apartment this weekend, and another daughter getting married on the seventh. We're serving my own Edelweiss, so I hope that it goes over well. You've been making wine for a...

    Holy Cheese on a Cracker!

Arne, I think that you're right on that, of all the batches that I have made, I have had two restart. They were both peach, and we know how hard those are to clear. The second time it happened to me the wine had been bulk aged for one year, and was still not crystal clear but being the impatient...

    What is your age?

58 here, but 40 years ago I used to feel a lot of 18 year old's, so theoretically, if my brain is still thinking 18, that must be what I am.;)

    This years elderberries

They're pretty sporadic in this area too Arne, some have already dropped, some are still red, some still green, and I've even some that still have blossoms. So I shouldn't have any excuses for missing them this year if I keep checking my picking areas often. A lot of my best patches were totally...

Just need some moral support! ;(

Another thing is, that some people refuse to believe that something that is homemade and not produced by a huge winery, can possibly be good. I have a sister that says she doesn't like homemade wine, but has never tasted my wine, even though some of my wines, I think are better than anything...
