Thanks Mr Kevin.

I dunno, perhaps one of our vendors would like to bring over a bunch of them for re-sale? Shipping would be cheaper in bulk.

Besides, seeing as no-one else is selling these, they could corner the market.

I am now trying to find a glass blower in NJ that can do this for me. It has got to be cheaper than sending out to Rumania.

I think that's a great idea. Glassblowers are a dying breed these days. We used to have a whole group here at the lab devoted to glass blowing but they are all gone now. Just a couple left any they are retiring and not being replaced as they leave.

Hey John,

I am off today, we've been out of town for a wedding in Seattle. I will be back in the office tomorrow. Let me make some phone calls to see if I can find if we have any left.

IB comes to town and doesnt tell me! :)

Hey John, if'n you do do all the hard work and find someone willing to make ya one... Can ya let us know? I know im interested in one as well.. If they'll make one, maybe they'll make two :)

Sorry about that Dez! We had a familial wedding and I had to bring extra Dapper Dan.....

Lots of FaceTime with the inlaws and not a whole lot o down time in between.

We did happen to head to Woodinville on Sunday! Brought back 1.5 cases of WA states finest juice to add to the cellar.

Definitely the highlight of the trip! :sm

JohnT, if you find someone and there is an advantage to a volume buy maybe we could gen-up enough interest on the forum to negotiate a package deal. I would be in for one if the price were right.

FYI:
I put in a couple of calls to some possible leads today. Will post back if I get any bites. John, do you have any other photographs (esp closeups) of this thing. I see the one online is listed as 80cm. We are going to need some dimensions I suspect.

I can try and come up with a drawing. I think that 80 cm (about 3 feet) is small. Seems to me that the whole thief (from end to end) was more like 4 feet.

Folks,

Just want to resurrect this thread.

I came up with a rather simple drawing that shows an idea of size. The glass was rather thick (perhaps 1/4 inch or more). The shaft (or tube) was also tapered (thcker where it joined the bulb, and thinner at the end.

IBG,

Not to nag, but have you heard anything more on this?

I sent out emails to two different individuals one said he couldn't do it and have not heard back from the other one. I will send this pdf and see if he is interested or knows of anyone else who might be.

Since glassblowing isnt quite dead here in the Seattle area, i've put out a couple phone calls / emails, will see if i get any bites..

Hey John,

I was looking at the picture of your cousin, holding the mini-version.. A thought occured.

If the full size is much bigger than that, it must take two people - one to suck it into the thief, and one to put their finger on the bottom.. Our arms arent long enough for our face to be stuck to the top of the bulb and put our finger on the bottom - or am i missing something? Lol..

It really is not a problem. The thing should be around 4 foot in length. The long shaft allows for you to draw wine from the center of the cask, but not longer then most people's arm-span.

In the picture, the one he has looks like its only 3 feet in length.

Wow, nice stuff. Looks like this would be right up their alley John. I would email them!

I have not heard back from anyone I emailed last week, even sent an email to a glassblowing place in Santa fe. Nothing.
