What I have planned on doing this year is making half of my wine to age a year and the other half to drink in 2 to 6 months. I hope to do that for three years and then I should be drinking pretty much only my wine.

I remember reading a recent thread about someone who did 3 different Pinot noirs along the price range scale to compare them. I might do a search to look over that thread and see what became of that experiment.
I liked the mezza luna as an early drinker but I tweaked it heavily.

Knockabout - that was me with the three pinots. We did a blind taste test with 20 people at the 12 month old mark. I don't have the notes with me but as I recall 7 picked the Vintners Reserve as their favorite, 8 picked the Eclipse and 5 picked the Select. My personal opinion is that the VR has probably gotten as good as it is going to get. The Eclipse is good now but it still taste young. I'm sure it is going to continue to improve.

Thank you to everyone for your input.
I kind of decided to go the route of making a bunch of stuff to see what I like, and to gain experience.

So right now I have a Lodi Ranch 11 Cab Sauv going; clearly not meant for early drinking, a World Vineyard Trinity Red, Dragon's Blood but with strawberries, and a pale ale (beer). I will also be starting, in the next week or so, a Kolsch (beer), an Angel Blanco, and a World Vineyard Australian Chardonnay.

After this I will probably one beer and one wine per month.
