Is there an issue if some if the b-brite granules still in the carboy when I rack to it?
It certainly would not do the wine any good. Why take the chance? Use a carboy brush and rinse well with cold water. Is there an issue if some if the b-brite granules still in the carboy when I rack to it?
It was less than 1/2 a teaspoon. I did rinse again with hot water and let that sit a while before dumping it out and I think I got it all - thanksB bright produces hydrogen peroxide which catalyses oxidation reactions. ie it is not good for the wine. It is alkaline which in quantity will raise the pH and again is not good for the wine.
How much? 0.2 gram which I might have after sloshing a carboy the first time should not produce enough change to be detected. If it was 1/2 a teaspoon you will probably measure the change so I would slosh it a few times to remove it.
The chemicals involved should readily be neutralized in a person or a lab rat. I would not be concerned about eating a few granules.
