Great info Deezil. It would be great if there was a sticky or something similar that "corrects" or "enhances" the directions from kits. The one I have still talks about rinsing your equipment after sanitizing. I know that homebrew kits are similar and some of the worst advice they give is to rush through some of the steps, which I'm assuming is meant to produce a finished product sooner. If beginners knew right off the bat to lengthen some of those steps, they would improve the quality of the beer with absolutely no extra effort.
Do you have any other tips like that? I plan to start my kit next week since I have a rather unpredictable schedule the next several days, and don't want to be in a position where I can't push the lid back down or rack it at the appropriate time.

Edit to add: I saw the sticky on kit tweaks, but those look a little more advanced than what I had in mind.
