Cork Sparkling Wine Bottles?

Can the thick, heavy sparkling wine bottles that come with cages (eg Martini) be corked with a standard cork, if it is only going to be used for regular wine?

I have used #8 corks, ( not the std #9) to cork Champagne bottles. They go into the neck better, it’s not a perfect solution but we have had wine in those bottles for a few years with no issues. Roy

So the # 8 are smaller?
(It will be my first time to cork and I have both bottle styles but havent bought any corks yet.)

Yes the #8’s are a little smaller in diameter. They seal the neck ok, but come out a little funny because the neck isn’t as long on the Champagne bottles. Roy
