I might as well try making a port. It looks like there is a special going on. Has anyone made the Coffee Port or the Orange Chocolate Port Style? I either going to make two batches of the same or one of each. What will you choose?
John

John, I have never made a Port wine, but I like Port and buy it as a dessert or appetizer wine. If you are intent on making a double batch, I would suggest that making one of each is the way to go because you don't use as much, thusa batch would last a while, and you would have a variety.

Also, I believe the Coffee Port is something new and you may not find anyone who has made it. Sounds great for dessert.

John, I made the Orange Chocolate port and love it. It has also gone over very well with guests. I first tasted it when Wade offered me a bottle who hated it.

I currently have one on order and seriously considering the coffee one also as it sounds awesome. As Rocky suggested I would make one of each. These should be bottled in 375 ml ice wine bottles to show them off as the desert wines they are. These kits will each produce about 30 bottles. Keep us posted on your decision.

The OCP is fantastic! Will be ordering at least 1 kit. The coffee port is new, sounds very good and is on my list as well. If you really just want a plain old port Mosti has some very high reviews as well but you can get that one any time while these others are limited edition and you never know when they may say no more!

Now I need to make the time to bottle my blackberry port and apple tatin port I made last year. And yes the little taste I had before these got put to rest (hidden from view so they can age) was amazing.

BTW most of the port kits are 3 gallons so you'll either need to make 2 or pick up a 3 gallon carboy.

I too am planning on doing a port and tend to look at at the wine competiton results from time to time for some not allguidanceand the rj spagnols cleans house easily followed by wine expert but celler craft is in there for there porto corinto, mosti not so muchwhich seems to be the case for most of there wines

Know what? You guys are talking me into making a Port! I have never done so and I am looking forward to it. Now I would like some help from you. I just want to make a Port, not a flavored Port with some other flavor like chocolate, raspberry, etc. I am a purist (at least for my first try). What do you recommend for my first try? Assume that price is not a consideration.

As always, I appreciate your input. Thank you.

I myself cant stand the Orange Chocolate Port and like the White Chocolate Port much better. The Coffee port is brand new so no one has made it.

The coffee port sounds VERY interesting as I love Kahlua and other coffee liquers

I decided to order one of each and a couple more carboys. That will put me around twenty. How many carboys is too many?

No such thing as too many carboys - Hope you have some 3 gallon ones in your inventory.

Rocky, having too many carboys insures you won't have too much money.

Ha, Ha. Good one Peter. It is a variation on the economic theory that states, "spending will rise toequal income" I guess. Restated, "the amount of wine one makes will increase to equal the number of carboys possessed."

Me thinks he used Brandy. Everclear just doesn't meld well since its made from grain alcohol and Brandy is made from well..... grapes!

Oh yes, I did use Everclear. I like it for its neutral flavor
