Some time ago, i ordered two kits (the same type of wine)from Williams Brewery. At the time, I was still pretty new to this whole process but noticed that one can had a date used best by and the other did not. Made me a bit suspicious?
I called them and they looked to see when I had ordered it but said the said the undated should still be good for a a number of months. I also asked why there was no date on it and I was told,"They were working on it".OK.
I made them both. The one with the date I have in the carboy as I do with the other one which is also in a carboy. It has been 3-4 months in the carboys.
The one with the date on it taste OK but the one with no date on it does not taste good. If this were baking, cooking ,etc, I could pin-point but with this wine...uh???????????
I thought what I should do is gather a panel of five experts( friends who drink wine) and have them taste them side by side and tell me what they think. This would be a double blind taste test. If they think the undated one is undrinkable...do I dump ? let it age more?
Should I contact Williams brewery and see what they would say.
I tend to blame myself since I am a newbie to this all but I have made wine from my own grapes, different kits, fresh wine juice, fruit, etc and never dumped a wine.
Advice?
