well I don't feel so bad now loosing an empty glass carboy in the dish strainer ( I immediately ordered a carboy strainer) which up till then I was planning on it! But also lost a 3 gal RJ port aging. Lost glass carboy and all slipped right out of my hands! I now own carboy handles and make sure my hands are dry before handling! I quit using the laundry room except to wash bottles cuz I imagined it before it actually happened to me and I don't see myself being able to move the washer and dryer to clean. We all feel your pain and you have our sympathy!

There are two types of winemakers, those who have spilled wine and those who lie about it

I was making cider for the first time and in a lapse of judgment, I capped 3 carboys before I inoculated yeast. I came back a few days later from thanksgiving ( after helping my dad move into his new house) at 9PM. Came home, to find that my wine room had cider gunk all over the popcorn ceiling and walls.

Needless to say, this was around an 8 hour clean up operation since we had to wipe down the walls... Turns out water based paint just kind of repaints the wall when you sponge it. And popcorn ceilings do not wash clean, they just kind of crumble.. So, I got to spend my next day repainting the ceiling.

Also, we managed to spill about 2 gallons of beer on the carpet by leaving a carboy untended during racking. It was not a good day for us. However, the ceiling looks reasonably good now... And the carpet will not be the same again.. But, this is a problem that we will navigate when we move out of here.

So far, the worst I have had is trying to add tannins to a wine I thought was degassed, only to have them basically form a geyser of wine in my kitchen on the wood floor and stone wall.

My friend who also makes wine did the classic wet hands on a full glass carboy maneuver, and it shattered and coated every single surface in the whole room with red wine and glass shards.

Part of the process!

I bet you'll love the Super Tuscan...... it is one of the better kits around.
