I’ve had this test kit
Economy Aeration-Oxidation Free SO2 Test Kit
for a few years but never used it much because the chemicals needed were expensive and I was I never sure if they were effective after sitting on the shelf for a year or more. So I’ve recently been finding cheaper sources for all the chemicals and have been using it quite a bit lately. It has made my so2 additions much more accurate. When I racked my wine into the barrels in September I put a large 90 ppm dose of so2 , when I tested for so2 now in February it had maybe 10 ppm, so I added 40 ppm and tested it again the next day and approximately half had become bound so I added another 20 ppm and it’s stabilized there for now. I also bought a cheap $70 dissolved oxygen meter which also helps with so2 dosing. My oak barrels have about 1.8 mg/l of oxygen and a bottle of carmenere I bottled a few months ago had .68 mg/l which really surprised me.
