After seeing how difficult it is to crush cranberries with a press am wondering could you heat these up to open? I've read that some will use a food processer to split them open but worry that splitting of the seeds will impart bitterness to the brew. Help.

Try freezing them. I'm not sure about cranberries, but with most other fruits freezing breaks down the cell structure, helps in seed extraction, and yields more juice.

Heating may work also. Try chewing a few seeds to see how they taste. If they are astringent or bitter definitely don't include them, otherwise it may be okay to leave them in.

Had the berries froze for about 3 months. I will have to try tasting the seeds tho, never thought of that. My wife always boils the berries to open them for cranberry sauce in the fall for bottling and they are excellent. Much better than the canned ones.

You're right. I hadn't thought about cranberry sauce, but that's an indication boiling should be okay.

I definitely wouldn't use a food processor unless the seeds were already out for the above mentioned reasons. I haven't made cranberry but I think freezing and thawing is your best option here.

Freeze then Thaw. Add 2X more pectic Enzyme. Let it do its thing..
