Hi everyone,

I live in Istanbul Turkey and I'm quite new in home wine making. Actually, I haven't done anything yet but this week I plan to get the primary fermenter, yeast, yeast food, hydrometer, etc... At this season there are no fresh grapes and I couldn't find any brand selling grape juice concentrates for wine making. I even don't know where to find specific grapes like pinot noir, chardonnay, etc... so I plan to go for an orange wine or apple cider for starters.

All the best,

Sarap (means wine in Turkish, word originates from Arabic, spelled like "sharap")

Sarap,
Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you're on the right track so far. I agree that fruit wine is a good place to start. Please feel free to ask any questions on this forum and be assured of getting reliable answers.

Great to have you here! I wish I had some info on where you could get some grapes or juice over there. Arent there any wineries at all there?

Thanks for the welcome. As for your question Wade, there are a lot of wineries(I couldn't pasted links since I have less than 5 messages). Most famous are Doluca, Kavaklidere, Sarafin(my favorite) and Mey(company name, not the wine brand). Thanks for the tip, I'll check if I can get juice from one of those wineries.

Lots of times they dont pick it all and sometimes they allow you to go in and reap what they consider a waste of their time to pick after they are done.

Welcome to the site. It is very exciting to see people from other parts of the world, different cultures yet similiar interests. Welcome.

Welcome aboard glad we to have you with us let us know when you get something started

Welcome!

Hope you find a source of grape/grape/juice.
If not, start with the fruit wines. They will be lots of fun and rewarding.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I've called my favourite wine maker and they said they don't sell juice but for a fan like me they may make an exception. They'll call me back today.

Welcome to a great forum.. I am in the clearing stage of my first orange wine and I think it is going to be awesome.. The recpie is posted in the recipe section if you are looking for one.. Again welcome and ask any questions you may have people on here have lots of experiance and are willing to share it..

Thank you. The winery called and said that they don't sell juice. They said they can help me to get the grapes around September/October. I don't know if it's possible to make wine from so called 100% grape juices they sell in the supermarket. It's pasteurised and may be unusable to host yeast. I think that means: Viva Orange! :)
