Hi Everyone,
Looking forward to participating and learning as much as possible.
Happened across the app last month & think it's a fantastic community. Everyone seems welcoming and knowledgeable.
Have been in love with wine and have been going to wineries & tastings for the last 13 years. Fan of NY state wines. finally making the leap to creating my own bottles.
Open to advice! Also looking for opinions on the best reputable certifications and where to get started.
Happy New Year!

Welcome. This is a great forum with great people. Lots of information shared here that has really helped me.

welcome ruby.
first and foremost make sure you start out with the right equipment, even for a small 1 gallon batch...
If you read the post, everyone makes wine in different ways...but the equipment pretty much stays the same....

Silly me, I thought it was a typo. Paul, are you implying that Ruby is a wine vixen?

Welcome to the forum, Ruby. Are you located in New York? Just asking because you say you like New York wines.

Welcome aboard!

Do you have a local wine and brew store near home? I would recommend getting just enough equipment to make your first batch of wine. I'd recommend you start with a kit wine of your liking. Maybe a 4-week kit in the $75.00-$100.00 range.

Thanks all! I'm a tri-state girl. I call Illinois & Florida home, but frequent upstate NY every year & plan to make NY/IL home later this year.

Just found a local winery that also sells at home kits.. The difficult part is deciding on which kit to start off with!

Sour_grapes, thanks! Was wondering if people would assume it a typo or get that is a portmanteau!

what ever your name, your smile says it all.
what comes in the kits that the winery is selling.

Welcome Ruby! This is such a wonderful bunch here - everyone is really helpful and supportive!

Welcome to the forum Ruby. A kit is a great way to get your feet wet. There is a lot to chose from in kits. Talk to them at the winery about your preferences ie heavy red, oaky, white.. they'll narrow it down then some for you
