Just a starter merlot, I know I might get dirty looks after I say this but this was before I knew where to buy nicer kits. Italiano merlot off amazon.com

I have seen those kits on eBay and often wondered how they would turn out so now we have someone to let us know! In any event, you have to start somewhere so "welcome to the club" and keep us informed as to how the wine progresses. If you have any questions, this is the best place to get answers.

Welcome Ethan,

Unfortunately we have not heard much good about those kits on Amazon.....

You are however very fortunate to live within driving distance to George's place. He can point to to a kit that will be just right for you. Drop in and tell him we sent you!

Well if that kit doesnt come out that good I which Im guessing is most likely the bad news you could make a fruit wine and blend the 2 which Ive heard can make it very good. Maybe a Blackberry Merlot.

Ethan,

I agree with Wade's suggestion on this. It is probably better than adding a grape pack, as I suggested. I would talk to George about it. No sense in going through all the time and trouble and ending up with something that you do not like. A Blackberry-Merlot sounds super. George will have the Blackberry concentrate.

Hey Ethan,
I am also a newbie to this site and to wine making. This is a great site and these guys mean it when they say ask away. I have ask a few questions so far and have gotten replies very quick. Just a few suggestions from 1 newbie to another
1. Read as many threads on here as possible. Just know that the more you read the more questions you will have.
2. Start collecting bottles now. Ask friends to save them for you, ask your local resturants to save them for you, hit up any redemtion centers in your area because you will need them
3.Be very cautious about this wine making thing because before you know it you will be a month or two into it and you will be making your 4th batch.
