Is anyone growing Sabrevois ?

I have one empty row (15 vines) that I want to plant next year. I was looking at NE Vine Supply and reading about Sabrevois. Listed as very hardy and ripens to 18-20 Brix with low acid. I thought it might be a good blender for my Marquette, Petite Pearl, and Frontenac.

Does anyone here have experience with this grape? It’s not something I’ve run into at local vineyards, but some grow its sister St. Croix.

My local winery makes a nice sabrrvois, it has good body and kind of earthy. It’s grown on heavier clay soils which I think adds to its flavor.

Lucky you! I’m still deciding between crimson pearl and petite pearl. I want late bud break and higher levels of tannin. I’ve tasted petite pearl and it was ok, but haven’t tried crimson pearl.

I don’t know about crimson Pearl but petite is a real slow grower. At three years the Marquette were on the top wire with 1/2” diameter stems. The PP are still pencil thin.

I think it depends on the site. I grow both Marquette and Petite Pearl, and my Petite Pearl has been more vigorous and productive. I also grow some Crimson Pearl but its not very productive yet (after 4 years). Marquette buds the earliest, Crimson & Marquette ripen around the same time, and Petite ripens later and has more tannins than either. It's best to blend Petite with something fruitier (like Crimson or Marquette).

Yeah the same glacier got us both. I have Stoney clay loam as well but soil testing shows it’s low in N,P, and K. Next year I’ll dig up a band about 2’ wide under the wire and dig in some fertilizer followed by a good bark mulch
