I think I have been talked out of buying Mosti Mondale at my LHBS.
I may try online or another local store.
Now the issue will be finding what a good kit is.

I had got to know the levels of Mosti Mondale kits and could judge thier price and quality based on what I know.

I was looking to make a Pinot Noir or Shiraz that wont break the bank, but is better than the entry level kit

Any kit recommendations?

I have made the Cellar Craft Premium California Reserve Pinot Noir and everyone said it was really good. And it is > $100;)

thanks for the info.

But now my wife has fallen in love with Malbec.

Anyone have any kit reccomendations for this?

Haven't made it but this Malbec from RJS is on my short list for the next kit to try. It is a grape skin kit. It sells for $125.00 at the LHBS that I frequent.

That RjS Malbec was kit of the year and the 2013 winemaker. I currently have a RjS super Tuscan and California cab ep's. my brother in law is doing that RjS Malbec and were going to trade. Good times

There you go Elmer, we've picked one for you. PM me so I can tell you where to send my consulting fee. :mny :h

I am presently aging a Mosti Mondiale amarone and soon plan to order an MM Barolo, both with grape pack. What are the complaints or criticisms of your local store that made you decide against a MM?

I just bottled the RJ Spagnols En Premier PinotNoir and was well pleased. I have done and fixing to do again the Cellar Craft Yakima Shiraz. It is excellent. Good luck.

I only have 2 issues with Mosti Mondale.

1) they never clear on thier own. No matter how much I degass or how long I age them

2) it is the only brand I have ever made!

I would have no issue trying one of the better kits, since I usually make the Renaissance kits or Vinifera Noble (because they are only $80).

It would just be nice to have the option of trying a different brand, especially since I hear everyone on this forum talk highly of other kits!

If you're looking for Malbec, Cellar Craft has an Argentine Malbec in their Showcase line. There is also the Chilean Malbec in the RJS Winery Series. RJS also has a few in the "Grand Cru" and "Cru Select" lines.

I've got this one in secondary now. It's looking like it's going to be a pretty full bodied Pinot so far. Is that the case?

Elmer,
Your LHBS, which only sells Mosti Mondiale, talked you out of buying MM? Was that their intent? Anyways, I started with MM but did not like them at all (but I never made a Renaissance ). Just too thin and lacking in flavor. If you went with a comparably priced RJS or Winexpert kit, I bet it would be much better. That said, if you can swing it, get a kit with grape skins like the RJS winery series. There is a huge difference in the those vs the MM VN or the AllJuice. The Winery Series Tempranillo is currently my favorite.

Yes its got a nice body and mouthfeel. Followed instructions except added two ounces of sinple syrup at the end. I also cold stabelized to drop diamonds as this high quality kit is known to develop diamonds over time in bottle. At bottling my Pinot drinkers said it was quite good.

I have made many Mosti kits and this is my gripe too. I have many rants on here about Mosti kits not clearing.

My LHBS did not talk me out of it buying MM.
However all they carry is MM.
And since I was/is/am making kits and 1/2 of my bottles get handed out as holiday gifts I would not spend $150 on a kit.
So I always bought the bottom line kit.

I guess my point is that I have not had the chance to buy anything from My LHBS but MM, because that is all they carry.

I bottled my RJS Winery Series Malbec about a month ago. (carboy aged for just under 14 months) It's very good. My brother's wifes relatives from California who are wine snobs thought is was very good as well.

Made the Pinot Noir - CC Sterling twice and both turned out very well. Just bought RJ Spangols CGI Malbec Syrah (with grape pack) it was on special this month. Hope to start it very soon ( $81 mark down to $66)

I found the Super Tuscan on sale this week for $108.76. PM if you want details

I don't quite understand why you don't try other kits. There are plenty of kits in the $80 price range from Spagnols and WE. I've had it with MM too. The Super Tuscan from Spagnols is a great kit and I always buy from the place in Florida that has them for $108. Go and try a Spagnols kit and you'll never look back.
