I know that what I put on my label is kinda up to me. But i'm getting ready to bottle my first wine and have a question about the date to put on the label... The kit was a 2007 Petite sirah, that I got on sale, so do I put 2007 on the label, or the date that it gets bottled, which will be in a few weeks or maybe Jan 2009.

Thanks

I use the date I pitched the yeast. That's when the juice started turning into wine.

I use the month and yr I bottled.

If the time between pitching the yeast and bottling is short (6 weeks), I'll put the month and year of bottling. However, if I'm bulk aging, I'll put the month and year of pitching the yeast.

I have been putting the date I bottled but know it is wrong so will stop doing that from now on.

So there you have it...As is the case with most aspects of making wine........personal preference rules
