If your heater got hot enough to do that kind of damage to the bucket there is no way I would put it in my wine. It gets way too hot.It should only get warm not hot.

Lesson learned on this one. I will no longer use an aquarium heater to warm must. Since this was above the level of the fermenting must, it simply kept itself on trying to heat to its set point.
So far I have not been able to discern any off tastes or odors, keeping fingers crossed.

What i use for heating my brutes is a graden grow mat. That way i can multitask with the mat. Works great for heating my brute to the mid 70's and am using it now for starting my pepper plants and next week my tomatoes.
