I bought a 6.5 gallon carboy from a friend of mine yesterday and am cleaning it out. I guess at one time it was used to hold coins. I pulled it out of the foam it came in and it actually looks very clean. I washed it out yesterday and let it sit overnight with hot water in it. (at least it started out hot.

) It is now sitting with with a half gallon of sanitizer solution with the cap on it. I shook it up well to make sure the sanitizer covered the whole inside.
Should this be enough?

Depending on how dirty you may want to soak it in a "OXY" based cleaner.
No need to sanitize it now cleaning will be more important.

Sounds like it was already pretty clean. Oxyclean may finish it off without a lot of work and then just sanitize it like you are and you should be all set.

converting back to wine use, coins are probably one of the least hazardous things that might have been kept in there. But cleaning it as you are doing would still be necessary regardless.

It occurs to me that 6.5 gallon would hold a LOT of coins!!

Could you imagine holding it upside down and poking it with a knife trying to get all of the coins out like we use to do with piggy banks.

Could you imagine trying to count it all

could you imagine rolling all the coins in wrappers

I can't even imagine how much money it would be

Yes that is true but it costs you 10%. That would be a fortune. I think I would just start hitting it everyday for lunch money, wine stuff and things like that. I couple of times we gave wooden boxes filled with quarters for graduation gifts (money for the coin operated laundry machines) for kids going off to school.

The ones in the stores do take a "cut" but our (small town) local bank has one in the lobby and there is no fee!

Not sure if this is unusual but it certainly is handy and appreciated.

I have a couple of mayo jars full of change. The last time I rolled it all up it came to over $50. I can't imagine how much a 6.5 gallon carboy would hold.
