Hi, guys. I've been eavesdropping for about a year now. I'm pretty new to this ( about 2 years). So far I've made 4 kits - 2 shiraz, 1 chamblais, 1 pinot noir, with an Island Mist in the primary. From scratch I've made 2 apples, 1 concord grape, and 1 juneberry. I plan on ordering elderberry juice this week. My biggest worry is that I haven't had a disaster yet. All of my wines have been very drinkable with no exploding bottles or whacky flavors.

Hey. Welcome on board. i also dido a lot of reading and searching before I joined. A bit shy and embarrassed to ask questions. But I really enjoy this site. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. Congrats on making successful batches. I made every mistake in the book before I found this site but have learned a TON. One day I know I will produce something I'm proud of. I have a batch of cranberry started that I am hoping to serve at Christmas this year and that may be the one!

Maybe we can help you avoid some disasters... but not all of them!

Hi WineyMike,

Welcome to winemakingtalk. Glad you decided to join up.

WineyMike welcome to the club. I have one suggestion. Next time you are degassing a kit, lower wine 2.5" from top of the neck of carboy. Insert stirmix rod and attach to drill. Spin full speed to degass. Have plenty of spectators before turning on drill. Watch volcano erupt.

Congratulations, you now had your first disaater and are a certified winemaker! LOL

Welcome. Please ask questions. I'm sure there are plenty of peeps (like me) that will also learn from your questions.
