I get pretty good results by soaking them in hot water and dish detergent for about 15 minutes. Then I take a razor blade and scrape the labels off. 9 times out of 10 the labels almost push off. In the case where the label leaves a residue on the bottle, I scrape off as much as I can, and let it soak again for another 15 minutes, then scrape again. And of course, I thoroughly wash the bottle

Scour Pads

I've been using the 3m Scotch Brite Scour Pads after a quick soak in warm water. With a very little scrubbing they even get all of the glue off.
