@Jovimaple, the shelf life of a kit will depend greatly on the storage conditions. The 3 yo one I made had been in the store for those 3 years (owner was totally surprised when we looked at the label, he misread it and thought it was newer). I got it for half off and figured I'd take the chance, and it proved successful.
If the storage conditions were less ideal, the kit probably would not have been good. It had been at a stable temperature (~70 F) for the duration, so I took the chance.
Of course, we're talking shelf stable kits. If it was a FWK, a week or two would be max at room temperature.
