Should make a great blend but not a "Bordeaux" blend!

Only 5 varietals allowed in Bordeaux blends (Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Carmenere) and Sangiovese is not one of them!

Call it a TonyT Blend!

This is what I have read about Petit Verdot "Almost all the Petit Verdot in France is planted in Bordeaux, mostly in the Medoc where it is used in small amounts to give structure to the classic Bordeaux blend."

BCfryer,

What did you decide to do here? The reason I ask is that I have a 3:1 blend of Zinfandel and Muscat going right now and I blended the juice kits before fermentation. This seems counter to the advice that you are getting from some of the most experienced guys on this forum.

My reasoning was this: I was trying to replicate a wine that we made at home many years ago and we blended the two grapes prior to fermentation. It seemed to work well then so that is what I tried this time. So far, the wine tastes and looks great. Time will tell if this was a good choice. In any case, it is not the end of the World, and there will be some learning. Like Edison, I believe we learn more from our failures than our successes.

Rocky, I decided to go withthe advice of the more experienced. I will blend a red zin, a merlot and a syrah from the bottle level. Trying different percentages of each. This will give me more chances to hit it right rather than blending it all together from the start or at the entire kit level. All in your taste buds as to what you like.Wineand food pared together will sometimes change your opinion also. I do know one thing for certain is that it is all good. The Italian Borolo from last years RJS International Series is good tonight. Its an early drinker at only 11 months old.
