I do not know anything about wine making but have been doing woodworking , furniture making, high end jewelry cases as a hobby for almost thirty years.

Quick tip: if you want to know how good the furniture is you are about to buy, get on your knees and look at it under the bottom. They can hide flaws on top but do not hide them well under the furniture!

quick tip on buing furnature

The point?

If it looks well made on top, which is visual to the buyer and is intended to lure you in 'cuase it looks all clean and shiny, then that quality should be the same underneath-there should be no difference.

A couple of things:
1. The top of your furniture may look like hardwood but on inspection looking at the top from underneath, it may not be. It may be some inferior softwood*such as pine" doctored up to look like white oak or some other more expensive exotic hardwood.

2, The Finish: A common way to cut corners on furniture is to do q quick finishing job that is sloppy as you can see all the drips from the spray gun and variation in color.

As for specific details, there are many depending on how much you intend to pay.

If you have a specific type of furniture, price range, there are many questions that I may be able to help you with.
