Hi

Sorry to bug you guys but I am hoping that someone you can give me some quick and easy help and tips.

What I am looking to do is build a simple and effective way to transfer wines from a regular 750ml wine bottle into lots of littler tasting wine bottles. I run an ecommerce operation and I want to encourage my customers to try some new wines from our selection via a cheaper samples kit. Why get in touch with this forum? Well I was looking at some of the home winemaking articles and forums and saw some on the Vacuum bottling machines.

Do you know if these would be suitable at all for such a transfer? I am only small scale so I cannot yet afford huge industrial scale systems and thought something from the Homebrewing market place might work well?

I guess the issues will be finding equipment that will seal from a regular wine bottle to a little single serve type bottle.

If I were you I would try the All In one wine pump. Here are some of the challenges you will face.

1 Keeping the wine in an air free environment, you will probably need a way to purge the air from the small bottles as to avoid oxygen exposure. (maybe pre fill with CO2 or Argon, the latter is what I use).

2 I would try and get the wine you are dividing up in the largest container possible.

3 There also maybe some problems you will run into with the health inspectors.

4 You might think about finding a small beer type bottle and caping them (this would probably work for short term storage (I have not tried this, but on planes they have small 8oz bottles of wine, thou they use screw tops).

Hopefully this will guide you in a good direction. I love challenges, they are meant to be overcome.
Good luck and let me know how it works out.
This is a good idea and will let people get some tasting in, while not having the expense of buying a regular size bottle.

I just got some bottles that are 187 mL (approx 6.32 oz) -- This should equate to 1/4 of a standard 750 mL bottle. They are called Champagne Bottles and you have the option of corking with a #7 cork or capping with crown caps.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info. I think I have something close to a solution in my head.

The main issue I can't get my brain around is what Mr Kevin mentioned, purging the oxygen from the miniature bottles. From the few online videos of these machines they create a vacuum in the bottle to be filled right? If so that tackles filling oxygen free but what about closing the bottles? Every video or demo I can find shows filling of the bottles which is great but what about sealing them? Do I need to take any additional steps here?
