Lost another great one yesterday. Loved him in Bottle Shock, Harry Potter, Love, Actually, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Galaxy Quest and of course Die Hard! One of my favorites.

The veteran British actor and filmmaker Alan Rickman has died at the age of 69. The much-loved figure’s death was confirmed Thursday by his family. He had been suffering from cancer. Already a well-respected figure on the London stage during the 1980’s – his 1986 performance as the seducitive Valmont in Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses was hailed as an all-time West End great- Rickman achieved global success as a film actor relatively late in life following his memorable turn as terrorist Hans Gruber in 1988’s Die Hard opposite Bruce Willis. It was his very first film role, at the age of 41, and a part he was offered within two days of having arriving in LA.

I just watched Bottle Shock last weekend. Had no idea that he had cancer.

Obviously not a fan of all the associated "hoopla", Mr. Rickman was still known to many who recognized him as a master of his trade. Waaaaay too young....

He will forever be remembered falling from the Nacimichi Towers in Die Hard.

That scene was filmed before CGI is what it is today so it was much more difficult and was way more challenging/dangerous.

I will always remember him in galaxy quest. This was the first movie that I watched on my first (ever) DVD player.

I also though he was superb in bottle shock. I think that I will honor his memory tonight by cracking open one of my best and settle down for a bit of a movie marathon.

I heard over the radio this morning that he was very proud of "A Little Chaos" and that this was what he considered his best movie. Amazon has it and I may give that a try too.

RIP Alan! The world is emptier by your loss....

One of SWMBO's (and mine) favorite Rickman Movies was a little (BBC backed) one back in 1991 called Truly, Madly, Deeply A very touching romantic comedy with some very unusual and interesting plot twist. It was out on VHS way back in the day (we still have a copy somewhere in the garage) but never really made it to DVD. There are a few DVD copies on Amazon selling for crazy prices (like $400!) Its not available anywhere streaming either. Hopefully Allan's passing will revive enough demand/interest to bring it back in some form.

Watched Bottle Shock last night, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Steve
