I have 20 gallons in carboys that need to be placed together for sweetening and I go get my 32 gallon brute trash can to mix it. Well the only thing ever put in this can was salt water (for my 125 gallon fish tank). Well I open it and its got a oily smell to it and kinda got a sheen to the sides. I dont think I will be using this for anything.

Sad to read this. I hope someone with scientific thoughts speaks up here soon. Possibly heavy salt content caused the issue? I'm about to use mine for the first time with a double DB.

Did the salt water contain fish? I am not trying to make a joke: was this salt water, like, drained out of a working aquarium, or was it just H2O + NaCl (or whatever) mixed up for putting in to an aquarium?

What kind of wine would you want to rack off into something that has had fish pee in it? Did someone borrow it and not tell you? WVMJ
