This is a library sign made for those that can not read?

I actually can explain that. My mom has worked for our local library over 20 years. This symbol was enacted to create library awareness through a standardized symbol.

Yes... But... its a sign... A ROAD sign... to direct those drivers that can not read.... to the LIBRARY!

Does anybody else see this as a funny example of how our tax dollars are spent??

It would cost more money to do a graphic than to print off letters.

Maybe they were having reading classes. :D

Not sure I see the irony. You are driving and you see this sign and so you know the direction to take to get to the library. Signs that require you to spend time and attention decoding them (reading) are distracting. Whether it costs more or less to use a graphic would seem to be less important than the sign's ability to be immediately understood whether the light was poor, the weather bad and the sign half-covered with snow or branches and leaves and you are traveling at speed near an intersection with kids and adults stepping out between parked cars while the door of a parked car has swung open inches from your passenger side mirror. I think the sign was designed to be read by a driver driving parallel to the sign in a busy road, not by someone who cannot read. Same basic reason that Nike uses a swish.

Wait, people with drivers license that can't read?
Does anyone else find this disturbing?
Next your going to tell me stop signs with white borders are not "optional" stops.

May be this is an international sign . People who can't read English can still find the Library .
Just guessing .
