I guess I can re-purpose this Tempranillo. But for topping up, I am hesitant to use a wine I don't like to top up with. Am I over concerned here?

I guess that depends on how much you have to top up.

You're right - you can repurpose. Tempranillo makes great sangria. Add brandy to offset the fruit/juice and give it a little more body and bite.

Do a bench test. If you need to add 1 l of top-up wine to 22 l of "good" wine, that is about 4.5%. For a 4 oz. glass of wine, that would be 0.18 oz., or 1 teaspoon. So, take two glass of your favorite wine, and pour 4 oz. in each of them. Mark the two glasses. Ask your beloved or any willing accomplice to add 1 tsp. of tempranillo to one of them, and 1 tsp of "good" wine to the other, without telling you (yet) which one. See if you can tell the difference.
