That's a lot of cut split and ranked firewood Barney! Wood is a great heat source. It heats multiple times. Once when you cut the trees and then the crosscuts, once when you split and handle it , once when you stack it, again when you bring inside(or outside near an outside furnace) and again when you throw it in the fire and it finally burns. Enjoy the heat this winter (or next), it will probably be the only time you appreciate the heat it generates!

That is one! I haven't figured out how to post a series of pictures so here is another one

Barney to print more than one, after your picture is loaded in the editor, hit the end key moving the cursor to the edge of the screen, then hit return or enter. At that point you select the insert picture icon again and load the next. You need to load one at a time. When you have a few of them loaded or are done, then press the post button and you hopefully get a few in the same post.

Nice piles of wood.....is it oak???? You must be in excellent heath to manage that...keep it up...it is keeping you young and strong.

You sure must have some hungry stoves.....I gather tho that you heat more than just your house with your outdoor furnace.....

Jim brought home almost all the wood we cut this spring...then there was the really dry stuff he wanted to put in the basement....Now it's been raining so that wood has to dry out a bit before we bring it inside. We can store about 3 months wood downstairs next to the furnace...it burns really good when it is dry and room temp.

I want to cut about 3 more loads...just to be sure we have enough incase it is a brutal winter.....dread the thought of winter....But that's when we make lots of wine....and...hopefully by then I can drink some too.

We had this old wood/coal burner stove in an old farmhouse where we use to live...then we put it in the new house down there....The people who bought our place didn't want it...so we got it again....it has heated 3 of our homes...old, ugly, but very efficient. We love wood heat....everyone is complaining about being cold and the expense and we most times have a window open...always the bedroom window cracked....sometimes wake up to snow on the windowsill...but enjoy the fresh air.

Wood heat is the best. Some of our early spring work....these were dead trees that was holding an old deer stand...

Good going Barney. I love the house and all the surroundings. I have drafted quite a few homes very similar to that one. They are very functional and great looking!

Beautiful home...Love everything about it. Fabulous....I bet the inside is as lovely.

You and your wife are an inspiration...hope we can still be doing all that in 15 more years like you two.

Well, i'm mighty proud for all of you who like a wood fire but I had enough of that action as a kid growing up on a farm where it was used for heating, cooking and even doing laundry. I hated those cold winter mornings when it was my turnto hit that cold floor and stoke up the firein the fireplace and then get a fire going in the cook stove. I always made sure that if the next moning was my turn for these chores that there was a good gum backlog put on the fire in the fireplace before I went to bed. That ensured you had a good bed of coals the next morning to get a fresh fire going. Throw a couple of pieces of rich pine knot on them and you were good to go. Almost like throwing gas on a fire if the pine was really rich. We cut our wood from the back of our property and used Byrd, our huge big white plow horse to pull a huge sled dad built to haul the woodto the house where it was split and stacked.I remember when i was pretty small ( Yes wade, I used to be small

) a riding on the load of wood on that sled and pretending I was on a covered wagon moving west

That is a beautiful home actually my dream home, Im with Wade and hate to intrude but how about some interior pics? Who gets to wash the windows????Edited by: Scott

Waldo...I absolutely love the smell of pine burning.....We don't have many pines or spruce up here but had a cedar tree blow down in a storm years ago....We keep that wood separate and when we are just sitting around the Campfire Cafe after a meal I'll have Jim throw a piece of it on the fire...just for ambiance. It doesn't get any better than that.
