In the last couple of weeks, I have had two very, very good sweet red wines.

I'm really not ready to jump into making my own wines from grapes and doing my own blends, so I need to look at kits.

Has anyone here made a red wine kit (not port) that was meant to finish out as sweet?
Or do you know of a red wine kit that would take a bit of backsweetening after it's finished?

I don't have access to the blend or type of grape from one of the sweet reds I had....The other one is this one.

I thought winexpert had a blend like that. Was supposed to resemble apothic red.

I checked out the Enigma thread as well as the Island Mist Blackberry Cabernet.

They both sound promising.

Quick question though, I've never really seriously looked at the Island Mist wines because I always thought they sound like wine cooler type flavors.

Can someone actually describe the blackberry cabernet taste to me?

I have only had the cranberry malbec and the peach apricot chardonnay. They are fruity and sweet, and are somewhat of a hybrid between wine and wine cooler.

I've made the CC Orchard Breezin Raspberry Rapture, which I think is along the lines of the Island Mist kits. It is a Cabernet base with Raspberry f-pack, which I added 1/2 of to the (late) primary since I didn't want an overly sweet wine. Also added sugar to get the ABV up to 10%. My Dad used to say with a weak clam chowder that the "clams just walked quickly through the soup". I think in this case my raised alcohol level made the body seem rather weak as if the Cabernet grapes walked through the wine and ended up somewhere else.

I just picked up the cranberry Malbec. Need a quickie for some Christmas gifts. Hopefully it turns out as well as it sounds.

I don't expect a fine wine. It's mostly for a bunch of women I work with that like sweet wines.

I apoligize in advance, Julie is probably going to send me to the corner, but who is going to get the quickie. Arne.
