I had not heard that, Julie. Horrible! I cannot imagine anything worse than losing a child that way. My Grandchildren go off to school each day and this is what can happen.

Fortunately, I don't have grandchildren, yet, but we do have one on it's way. I am glad my children are out of school.

You are right LanMan, I bet everyone of us sometime in our lives were bullied but we handled it and everything worked out ok.

Bullying is not the answer to why these children are turning violent, it is their excuse.

thanks Deezil for the update, this is very sad, I pray that there will be no copycats.

Prayers to the families of all 3 who have perished and hopes for a speedy recovery of the other 2 injured.

Not to take the thead too far off topic, however, these are the Gun Free School Zones that the Govt has created. Could a trained and armed teacher stopped this prior to 5 students being shot? In areas where firearms are prohibited, you only prevent the law abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves and the people they care about. Criminals and those intent on breaking the law won't care that firearms are prohibited. Last I checked murder was against the law but that didn't stop this person from committing it.

Just more food for thought.....

Doug, you know you will not get an argument out of me on the right to carry but you need to look at this as a whole, there is just know way we can allow anyone to carry a gun in a school district. There is just too many unknowns to allow this.

This school district just opt'ed for real cops. They dont have guns when they're on the school premises - just a couple tasers (one on the hip, one on the thigh, extra cartridges) - but the cop car in the parking lot is just like every other cop car in the city - im sure their service pistol is in the cab, and there's some sort of rifle or shotgun in the trunk.

I wont be surprised if it becomes more wide-spread.

It is more widespread than you think, it is something most school districts do not want advertised. We have an agreement with our local police, the station is about 1/4 mile up the road, our security has a radio frequency to call them if a situation calls for it and they can be there within seconds.
