Today I sorted old PC equipment for donation. I've been building PCs for 30 years, and have collected a serious amount of junk. Unfortunately, most of it is just that -- junk.

However, I found an organization about 25 miles away that takes donations, and re-purposes old equipment as much as feasible. Anything they can't use, gets recycled.

I have 3 laptops (all "run", one is questionable), old motherboard, old GPU, LOTS of cables, etc.

I got the non-laptop materials sorted -- it fits in 2 large boxes.

I'm keeping 2 each of any type of cable I might possibly use, but have enough chaff to fill the aforementioned 2 boxes. If all goes well, later this week I'll make the trip and donate this.

The materials I'm keeping fit in 2 small boxes. MUCH better.

I did that awhile back. I had to check every out of the way cubbyhole for old drives, memory sticks, motherboards, etc. before I got it all. Send it to be "recycled." I hope it was, lol.

Ms. Jswordy found small leak in a bathroom supply line, so I replaced that. Just about to do a small amount of painting in the living room, in prep for a larger amount after this dries. I am throwing myself to the mercy of the gods of color matching, lol... they are so often fickle...

I got the grinder out again today, this time to try the shredder -- making fried potatoes AKA hash browns.

The shredder worked well, about 2 minutes to do what would take over 10 minutes with a hand-held shredder, and the bonus is no change of cutting my knuckles! Clean up was easy - this is unlike the KitchenAid shredder, which I recall was not as easy to clean.

I soak the potato in water for 5 minutes then drain. For frying I season with various things (this time seasoned salt, black pepper, paprika, and Costco no salt seasoning). And added 1 medium onion and 1 shallot, minced.

I take my old electronics to Staples for free recycling. Our transfer station charges ridiculous amounts if you decide to toss them. Old TVs I've taken to Best Buy, but there's a hefty fee if it's not their own brand.

We have a community recycling center that accepts electronics. No charge.

Heading home today from Vegas. My wife and a friend spent yesterday at a trade show which gave me a chance to visit my best friend. They’ve had no rain or snow even up on mount Charleston, creeks are bone dry. Enjoyed lunch at a well known Local Mexican restaurant and caught up on life. Can’t wait to get out of this city, non stop noise and crowds.

"Can’t wait to get out of this city, non stop noise and crowds." :D Me, after every big city I ever visit....

A friend just got done having paint color-matched to touch up w room, and then ended up doing the entire room because it was off-color. So I was nervous after getting a quart color-matched at H-D to paint over the drywall compound joint created when we expanded the doorway. Painted it on and it didn't look too close. But maybe when it dries... and then joy! One of the many little things that need doing to finish up the kitchen project.

I've done my share of electronic purging but some things are special and I like to think they have historical importance. Like this paper tape repair kit. Ah, good ol' paper tape! Brings back memories and Jeeze Louise do I feel old! 😄

I know what it's for. I also have tape splicers for 1/4 to 2" video and audio tapes.

Just imagine how many people are totally clueless to what we went through. Some already think technology is ancient if it's not wireless.
A pencil, scissors, and scotch tape worked for cassette tapes .... been a LONG time since I did that.

Although this is a meme and it may properly belong to the Memes thread ... it illustrates the conversation. 🤣

I am in the process of making a curd stirrer. Some cheese recipes call for over an hour of stirring. I have never experienced anything quite as boring. I finally had a light bulb moment on the design, but I got too excitable and might I say, overconfident.

i watched Youtube videos and decided to drill the glass lid for mounting the motor and speed control. My version was slightly different than the video results.

I am now waiting for another lid. teach me to over complicate it. i am going to make a simple bracket and bolt it to the plastic portion of the lid. I have 2 pot sizes and that is how I ended up with this lid design.

I completely missed the simple option in my first design and this is the result. I will include the completed version once the new pot arrives

Cheese update!

I am still aging my Brie and Borgonzola. They are now wrapped and in the colder fridge to mature.

How do you keep the Brie the correct temperature to age? My wife's cheese book says to age it at 50 degrees F.

Do you have more than one fridge, for different stages of cheese making?

I have an old wine fridge and a temperature and humidity controller that turns on the fridge and a humidifier when needed. I can set it on my phone and change the temps for different cheeses easily, but most are gonna do OK between 50-60

The bins help to hold the humidity, but I don't know if I really need them with the humidifier.
