What would you go for first?

Just 4 more dry days left! I have made it through lent completely on the wagon. I know I may have asked this already, but let me ask again...

After 40+ days, what would be the first bottle you would open up?

Reminder: I have no welches, so don't even go there!

I am making a traditional Hungarian Easter dinner. Sprial Cut ham, mashed spuds, hugarian cabbage salad (dressing is vinegar, mayo, and sour cream) and oven roasted bratwurst. For dessert, I am making a nussstrudel (a yeast based cake with a spiral of walnuts, formed into a loaf).

Dinner is at 2pm (again a traditional holiday feedbag time). We eat at 2 so that we are hungry for leftovers that night.

I also plan on bring down a prime rib roast for saturday night. Prime rib is on sale up here ... $4.00 per pound! Yorkshire pudding, green beans, roasted mushrooms, roasted rosemary spuds, and a nice tossed salad to go along with it. Apple Pie for dessert.

Friday, the plan is to go out to one of those great BBQ joints down there.

I REALLY like to cook.

Well you have your pre-meal appetizer wine, then your wine to go with salad, then something to go with the entree. Of course don't forget the dessert wine! Then you will also need something to wash all that easter candy down with.

Since it's been so long.. I would make the first bottle you open, the first glass you drink, a meal in itself.. Something robust, or that stands alone - big red, or fruit wine; maybe something sweet if thats your liking - dessert wine or port

John, BBQ on Friday night? Doesn't it have to be fish? Start off with a champagne before your meal or with your salad if you eat that first. Next open your favorite big read that the wife would enjoy also. BTW, we want pictures.

UPDATE: One more week.


So, it is Easter dinner and my uncle and wife ganged up on me.

They told me, that in their opinion, Easter is still considered lent. Not wanting to argue, I did without. My first glass will not be until this saturday.


All I can say is this.. There Better Be a Heaven!!!!
