Hi friends,

I took Friday off and my wife and I took three days to visit several North Carolina winery/vineyards. It's a 1.5 hour trip to the Elkin and the Yadkin Valley, the hub of wine making activities in the state. I posting some photos that I took. Grapes are already being harvested and processed. I hope you enjoy the photos.

The grapes in the photo with me are Sangiovese. The grapes in the bladder press are Traminette.

Thanks for taking a look.

NC Grapes

Nice Looks like a great trip!! Did you get to take some home?

No,

I, I wish I had. I'm trying to work out an arraingement with a vineyard/winery to sell me 12 gallons of crushed destemmeed grapes. I don't believe reds are being harvested just yet.

Hopefully my deal will work out.

Paul,

Thanks for sharing! Great pics and a beautiful sight to see. Did you try any of the wines? What did you think about them?

Trying NC Wines

Paul,

ibglowin,

Yes, my wife and I most certainly did try the wines. This is our second trip this year to the area. These are really fine wines.

We visited the following wineries.
Elkin Creek - This is one of our favorite wineries. On Sunday, Mark (wine maker and cook) makes a fantastic fire cooked pizza. Their wines are wonderful.

We also visited McRitchie's Winery and Ciderworks. Their wines are fantastic and they make a lovely sparkling apple wine.

Shadow Springs Vineyard - They have a really beautiful vineyard and their wines are lovely.

Grassy Creek Vineyard - This vineyard/winery is located on an old dairy farm. Several of their wines are sold in what appears to be an old time glass milk bottle. They have a screw top cap instead of a cork.

Here is a pic of their milk bottle like wine bottle.

Brushy Mountain Winery - This is just a winery, no vineyard. Their wines are fantastic and their tasting is a real joy. Check out their site, one of their wines, Bugger Swamp, was featured on Leno.

Laurel Gray Vineyards - Here's another wonderful winery that I highly recommend.

We purchased a bottle or two from each of these wineries. There are many other excellent wineries in the Yadkin Valley and North Carolina, but we didn't have time to visit them all. If you get the opportunity, I encourage you to visit this lovely area. The Yadkin area is just South of the Blue Ridge Mountain range.

Ah shucks, its back to work today.
