    Wine expansion in carboy ?

Never dump it. Now is a good time to taste it.

    Question about racking

Charlie, what you say makes sense and I understand your thoughts, however, if you go to the carboys too early, you will run into fermentation that is too heavy for the bottle and it will overflow into your lock and wherever else. Your choice. :b

    Why use a bottling bucket?

There has to be a lid. :b

    printing Labels

How did you run the tape thru the printer? Maybe put it on waxed paper? If I could get it thru the printer, I would use it exclusively. :b

    New Bottle Filler

Dan, I'd like to see more. I use a home made bottle filler that uses a 2 holed bung and a T on which I use my finger to control the height. I don't understand how the height of the overflow effects the height in the bottle. I wasn't able to see the video. Thanks, Rich L.

    Wine Filters

My vote is for the whole house filter and vac. pump. I've had the mini and got rid of it. Now I use the pump to filter, rack & bottle. Like the man said, "never lift a full carboy again". :b

    when good wines gone bad

Joe, Sunday I will probably rack one 5 gal carboy into gallons. I'll use the zest from each of an orange, lemon, & grapefruit. I'm not sure about how much to use for each gallon but if I use too much, I'll have enough to blend it. I'm glad you reminded me at exactly the right time. See ya on...

    when good wines gone bad

Joe, what a great thread. You reminded me of most of what I forgot from our meeting. I had planned on using zest and then put it aside. Now I have 2 carboys of Chilean Chianti from May of 2010. One is oaked the other was started with raisins. I'll put the oaked one into gal jugs and add a...

    Carboys on Concrete?

I never allow a carboy to touch concrete. If I must put it down on the floor, a piece of wood goes down first. "b

    picture of wine rack

I got my nail gun at Home Depot too. Brads and finish nails up to 2 1/2 inches, money well spent. The compressed air is always good to have. I also use it to shoot cotton balls thru tubing. :b

Very nice rack. I started a small rack 2 years ago, added to it last year and will again this year. It never ends.

Degassing Wine using a Vacuum Pump

If I remember corrrectly, 29 inches of mercury is the max. Once you have a vacumn, there ain't no more. In outer space it is 29 point something. As to degassing, I've been using a vac pump to rack for about 2 years now. The one thing I learned is that you no longer need to degass. I rack...

Found a Fruit Fly in Primary!

It's OK, just a little added protein. If it was doing the backstrock, your in trouble, otherwise, no problem. Just listen to Wolfman Dan.
