I started a Tavola FWK yesterday (my Meritage is aging in a carboy for a few months) and it came with a pack of carbon to add. I debated it but went ahead and added it according to instructions. As I understand it the carbon helps with finish color of the wine, making it lighter? I’m just curious how does that work? Is adding carbon (I’m guessing some kind of fine activated charcoal) common for white wines?

Thanks

It's my understanding that using carbon is common in commercial winemaking.

There have been quite a few conversations about the carbon in the FWK threads such as the one I noted above. If the link doesn't work, search for it by that name. Or search the site for "carbon" to see it discussed in other threads, as well.
