Looking for a kit to make for my first time. Plan to maybe add it to my blackberry wine to help the blackberry go a little further. Thinking Merlot is a good partnership. Thoughts on the choice, and which kit would be recommended for a first time grape wine maker?

Merlot is an excellent choice. Any name brand kit should be good to get you started.

Once you’ve got a kit or two under your belt you can attempt the high end kits. Read the instructions several times, ask questions if unsure about anything.

Lastly, when you get around to bottling, consider a 75/25 Merlot dominant blend, and a 75/25 blackberry dominant blend. It’s a good way to teach your taste buds what it’s tasting and gives you some insight on what you prefer and how to up your game.

Thank you for that recommendation, I will definitely do that!

If not wanting to step into a full sized kit (6 gallon), a Wine Expert 1 gallon kit is an option. These small kits are available on Amazon and a few other suppliers.

That’s probably something I’d like to try first. I started the fruit wines at 1 gallon, and now I’m doing 5 or 6 gallon batches. Would like to work out the kinks first as they say.

Going from country wines to kit wines is a piece of cake, IMO. Ask plenty of questions. :)
