This little hobby is about ready to break me. I need two (more) 6 gallon carboys. I was thinking if we got a sizable order together maybe we could strike up a good deal with a Vendor. Each person would have to take care of their purchase under a "special price agreement", what do you think? bk

shipping indeed is the issue..i can get pallets (( 48 carboys) at the rate of 18 or 19 per six gal carboy..but dont recall the shipping cost...i think around 4-5 $ per carboy....best best for one or two is always search craigslist when you *dont* need them :) that is when you find the 2-10 dollar buys

That is soooooooo true you don't need one you'll see them everywhere for next to nothing......need one and they're as scarce as hen's teeth. my biggest problem is when I find good ones for sale I don't have the cash once I get the cash can't find the carboys lol , just keep your eyes open you'll find them.

my neighbor is a craigslist addict and estate sale junkie...he know to keep an eye out for me and he brings'em in for 10, and 5 bucks when he sees them....if i were to decide i neeed one, like Sirs says.....i will never see them

I dont do shipping on carboys as its just a problem waiting to happen. I only buy them locally and check each one very carefully before leaving the store!!!!

My local 6 gallon Carboys are are just south of 60 bucks, Al says he can procure 48 at 5 bucks each plus shipping, Al, who do I call? I'm taking this wine making to a new level.

PS: Anybody want to buy some 6 gallon Carboys for 20 bucks each plus shipping? bk

Before you order a ton of 6 gallon carboys, look at larger capacity stainless steel tanks.

homer I think you need to re read Al's post. He said shipping was $5 in pallet quantity, the carboys were about $20 each, but I think they have gone up since then.

Seriously $48 bucks? Here in Cincy they sell for about $42 but I found a place in Dayton that has them for even less.

But Dan that would only work if you wanted a boat load of one kind of wine. I agree it would be nice to have one if you're looking to do one major batch.
Another idea would be to do something like 30-50 gallons of niagara and a bunch of 6 gallon batches of other things for multiple blends.

True. Thats why I recommended only a couple of the larger tanks. You can still have a few smaller carboys around for variety.

to make sure my first post is properly read.......the price i was referring to is 18 dollars per carboy plus shipping which i believe to be 4-5 dollars additional for each carboy...that is a wholesale price...

folks with as many people here that are as serious about wine bit NOT yet wanting an oak barrel...look into flex tanks...( i have no financial interest in the company)

$29 in Champaign IL 6 Gal glass

29 bucks, making a stop there is almost worthwhile. The sad part is I can get 5 gal ones here for $15 but the world of wine making is based on 6's. What's the name of the store that has them for 29, thanks. bk

I think the 6g itally glass carboy locally are $32 or maybe $35... I'll get a better idea tomorrow when I stop in at the shop.

Friar Tuck the one I go to is located in Savoy, Il just south of Champaign by a couple miles. They have several stores including St. Louis area which would be closer for you.
