I think every one of us has pushed the grommet through into the must. I did it on a red, and knew I had no chance of getting it out, so I just left it in. The wine came out fine, and I recovered the grommet after racking to glass.

I pushed the grommet through, too, but left it in the bucket since I would have to fish through oak dust and chips in that particular must. On the downside, I forgot about it by the time I racked it to the carboy, and threw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak!

Oh well, it's only a grommet, and I don't put the airlock on the primary anyway!
